About the PPF Calculator

The PPF Calculator shows what a Public Provident Fund account grows to. Put in how much you deposit - once a year, or every month - the interest rate and how many years the account runs, and it shows the maturity value, how much of it is interest, and the balance at the end of every year.

It opens at 7.1%, the Government's PPF rate for October-December 2026. The rate is reviewed every quarter; the calculator assumes it stays the same. Depositing the full ₹1.5 lakh every year for 15 years puts in ₹22,50,000 and matures at about ₹40.68 lakh - over ₹18 lakh of it interest, and all of it tax-free.

Frequently asked questions

How is PPF interest calculated?

Every month, on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day of the month, at the yearly rate ÷ 12. The interest for the year is added to the account on 31 March, and then earns interest itself - so it compounds once a year.

What is the PPF interest rate now?

7.1% a year for October-December 2026. The Government reviews it every quarter; it has been 7.1% since April 2020.

What will ₹1.5 lakh a year in PPF give after 15 years?

About ₹40,68,209 at 7.1%. You deposit ₹22,50,000 and earn about ₹18,18,209 of interest. Extended to 20 years it is about ₹66.6 lakh, and to 25 years about ₹1.03 crore.

Is it better to deposit in PPF yearly or monthly?

One deposit on or before 5 April earns the most, because it earns interest for all 12 months. ₹12,500 a month for 15 years matures at about ₹39,44,599 - about ₹1,23,610 less than ₹1,50,000 deposited by 5 April each year. If you deposit monthly, do it by the 5th.

What is the minimum and maximum PPF deposit?

At least ₹500 in a financial year to keep the account active, and at most ₹1,50,000. Deposits are in multiples of ₹50.

Can I extend PPF after 15 years?

Yes, in blocks of 5 years, as many times as you like - with or without fresh deposits. This calculator assumes you keep depositing. To extend with deposits, submit the extension form within a year of maturity.

Is PPF tax-free?

Yes, it is EEE: the interest and the maturity amount are tax-free. Deposits up to ₹1.5 lakh a year can also be deducted from income under the old tax regime; the new regime does not give that deduction.

Can I take money out before 15 years?

A loan is allowed from the 3rd to the 6th year, up to 25% of the balance two years earlier. Partial withdrawals are allowed once a year from the 7th year, within limits.
